Welcome to Pass Christian High School, home of the Pirates!
We are excited about the 2018/2019 school year and look forward to continuing to provide a challenging academic environment in which all students are accepted, valued, and safe. As we enter our fifth year with the Freshman Academy on campus, we are confident that ninth-grade students will benefit from the dedicated core group of teachers providing transition support and from the specialized schedule in place. Plans are in place for this year to be one of the best ever!
Pass Christian High School, with a current enrollment of approximately 600, serves students in grades 9-12 and is one of a select group of schools nationwide named by the U.S. Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence (2005). For the past eight years, Pass High has been recognized by U.S. News and World Report as being one of the best high schools in the nation and consistently ranks among the top schools in the state of Mississippi! The Mississippi High School Activities Association awarded Pass Christian High School 16 Scholar Athletic Team awards last year. Our students' average ACT score is 20.6, compared to a state average of 18.3.
Our present school was built in 1999 to replace a 1930's vintage school building which was then renovated to house the Pass Christian Middle School at that time. A new addition to PCHS was opened in the fall of 2002, providing an additional sixteen classrooms. Pass Christian High School is a source of pride for our community and is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, chemistry and biology labs, an inviting media center with conference room, a career center, a health clinic, a "commons cafe" area, a Crow's Nest, and our own Pass High Coliseum. We are committed to ensuring a safe environment for our students and everyone on our campus.
Pass High, a Title I school, utilizes the four-by-four block schedule which allows students to earn as many as 8 credits per year. The curriculum offers a full range of courses from compensatory and developmental to Dual Credit and Advanced Placement based on state and national standards. Educators at Pass High are data driven and constantly seek to measure understanding and mastery with regard to student performance in order to enhance instructional planning, methods, strategies, activities, and assessments.
Pass Christian High School lives by the same mission statement as does our district, "Committed to Excellence". Our beliefs, incorporating stakeholder input, are "Students excel when... Curriculum is challenging and progressive; All are Actively engaged in the learning process; All have an equal opportunity to learn; Learning is a shared responsibility; Held to clearly defined, high expectations; and All are accepted, valued, and safe.”
Renaissance, a Josten's philosophy of respect, recognition, and reward, is a guiding principle at Pass High. The benefits of this philosophy enhance our school culture by having a positive impact on students, faculty, and staff members. Many activities are in place to allow students and teachers to celebrate and be celebrated! Just to name a few, our school hosts Block Parties; Praise Referral Luncheons; HAT Parties; Birthday Brigades; Attendance Incentives; Renaissance 9-week Award Rallies; Inspirational Teacher Recognition; Advanced Placement (AP) Have a Heart Party; One Smart Cookie ACT Improvement board; Student, Athlete, and Artist of the Month t-shirts and recognition; a variety of clubs including Jr. Civitan, Interact, Knitting, FCA, Dance, Green Club, GSA, FCCLA, Renaissance, and more. All special events are strategically organized to protect instructional time. Additionally, many of our students participate in off-campus JROTC and Career Technical Education Programs through partnerships with neighboring districts.
A diverse selection of Advanced Placement Courses and Dual Credit Courses is offered at Pass Christian High School. Students may select from seven Advanced Placement course offerings: English III AP, U.S. History AP, Government and Politics AP, Macroeconomics AP, Psychology AP, Studio Art AP, and Computer Science AP. Students may take a weighted course in Honors Physics. Dual Credit course offerings through William Carey University are: English Composition I and II, Public Speaking, College Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus, Biology, and Anatomy and Physiology.
Pass High is proud to provide opportunities for students excelling academically to participate in distinguished organizations such as the National Honor Society, French Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Beta Club, and Student Council. And since our PSAT program's inception in 2008, Pass High has had a total of twenty-three National Merit Finalist award recipients. With regard to scholarship awards, the total accrued by seniors over the past five years exceeds 25 million!
